Avandia a drug manufactured by GlaxoSmithKine for the treatment of Type II Diabetes has been linked to several heart related adverse events including cases of primary pulmonary hypertension, PAH, heart attacks, strokes, congestive heart failure, edema and fluid retention. Prior claims that the drug was heart protective seem to be untrue. Questions remain whether the increased risks of cardiac problems outweigh the benefits given safer alternatives.
