Canadian Gold: once profitable, now deadly.
Asbestos was once called Canadian Gold. It was going to bring great wealth to Canadian companies and its citizens.
It had at one time over 4000 uses. It was woven into clothes, building, insulation, coffee, pots and even mixed with children’s play dough.
But in the 1960’s and 1970’s when more and more asbestos miners started coughing up blood the bonanza stopped and Canada spent the next 20 years removing asbestos.
Quebec which was most of the asbestos miners has the highest rate of mesothelioma on earth.
In spite of the concerns Canada has not banned its use and asbestos is still mined in Canada and is the second largest exporter.
