Ohio University research discovers how asbestos fibers attach to human lung cells

In 2008 Ohio University researcher by using atomic force microscope observed how a single asbestos fiber attaches to a specific receptor protein on the surface of human cells.
This work is being supported by the National Science Foundation and the US Department of Labor. It hopes that this research will provide answers as to cause and prevention surrounding asbestos exposure. It is however, common for this type of research to take 5-10 years to deliver solutions.
