Peritoneal mesothelioma - an abdominal variant of mesothelioma
Peritoneal cancers found in 10-20%of all mesothelioma patients is the second most common type of mesothelioma cancer. It attacks the organs in the abdominal area.
Peritoneal mesothelioma is caused by exposure to asbestos and its latency period can be up to 40 years before symptoms appear.
The main symptoms are lumps on the skin under the abdomen, weight loss, constant stomach and back pains, fever and nausea.
